Visits Nagpur
Lieutenant General Aniruddha Chakravarty, Vishistha Seva Medal, Director General of NCC visited Nagpur on 22 and 23 May 2014. During his two days tour to the city he visited the Officers Training Academy (OTA), NCC at Kamptee and also the NCC Group Headquarters at Civil lines.
During his visit to the Nagpur Group Headquarters Lt Gen Chakravarty was received by Maj Gen Subodh Kumar Additional Director General Maharashtra, and Group Captain Mahesh Upasani, Group Commander. The DG NCC took a stock of NCC training activities in Nagpur and also interacted with the Cadets and Staff. In his address to the NCC Officers and Staff Lt Gen Chakravarty said “Our aim is to develop the character, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular values amongst the cadets. We should never lose the sight of our aim. While inculcating the spirit of adventure we should also be imbibing the ideals of self less service amongst the youth of the country. We should relentlessly pursuit these objectives”. He further said that the relevance of NCC would grown in the coming years as an organization that prepares good citizens and also a talent pool for the Armed Forces.
Earlier, during his visit to the OTA at Kamptee, he was briefed on various aspects of training of the instructional staff of NCC. Maj Gen RK Sharma, Commandant OTA, conducted the DG NCC on classroom and outdoor demonstrations. He also visited the state of the art indoor firing range and simulator.
Lt Gen Chakravarty, took over as DG NCC on 01 Dec 2013. He is an alumnus of Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun and NDA. Commissioned into the Rajput Regiment in Dec 1976 Lt Gen Chakravarty is a graduate of Defence services staff college, Wellington and the National Defence College. During his illustrious career he has held several important Staff and Command appointments. Lt Gen Chakrovarthy has also served as Chief of Operations and Contingent Commander of United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanan (UNIFL). He was also instrumental in preparation and implementation of the AV Singh Committee report.
