Revamping Mid-Day Meal Scheme
The States/UTs have engaged 25.70 lakh cook-cum-helpers across the country under the Mid Day Meal scheme. The honorarium to cook-cum-helpers has been revised upward to Rs.1000/- per month for 10 months in a year, w.e.f. 01.12.2009. The expenditure towards the honorarium of cook-cum-helpers is shared between the Centre and NER States on 90:10 basis and with other States/UTs on 75:25 basis. The States/UTs are free to contribute more than their mandated share towards the honorarium of the cook-cum-helpers.
The Central Government provides 100% funds under Management, Monitoring & Evaluation (MME) component for imparting training to cook-cum-helpers.
The Scheme was revamped in the year 2009-10. The cooking Cost is revised by 7.5% on annual basis from the year 2010-11. The latest of such revision has been made w.e.f. 01.07.2014.
This was stated by the Union HRD Minister, Smt. Smriti Irani in a written reply to the Lok Sabha question today.
