Crash of Maritime Surveillance Aircraft
Indian Navy Dornier (IN 240) crashed about 25nm off the coast of Goa at about 22:08 hours on March 24, 2015. Board of Inquiry (BoI) has been instituted to investigate the cause of the accident on 26th March 2015.
The various measures to prevent air accidents include:
(i) sensitization of personnel on aspects of flight safety through dissemination of material on safety concepts;
(ii) flight safety and operational readiness inspections every year;
(iii) safety audit of all Air Stations / Air Squadrons;
(iv) Dissemination of lessons learnt from accidents in the form of periodicals / leaflets.
This information was given by Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Shri Jyotiraditya M Scindia and Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in Lok Sabha today.
