Shri
Chaudhary Birender Singh took over the charge of the Steel Ministry in New
Delhi today in presence of Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, new Minister for Rural
Development, Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water & Sanitation.
Speaking
on the occasion, Chaudhary Birender Singh said that the Indian steel industry
is currently passing through a severe downturn and he will be working honestly and
vigorously for the promotion of the steel industry and to protect the interests
of the Indian Steel Industry. Shri Tomar gave his best wishes and said that he
was confident that steel sector stands to gain under the experienced and capable
leadership of Chaudhary Birender Singh. Shri Birender Singh has a long
political career of over 44 years in public life and over 16 years as minister
in the state and central governments.

Talking
to media about his future plans for the Steel Ministry, Chaudhary Birender
Singh said that he wants to make the steel sector progressive and globally
competitive and will be facing the challenges posed by the current world
scenario with a futuristic roadmap for the Indian Steel Industry.
After
taking the charge of the Ministry of Steel, he held an introductory meeting
with the senior officers of the ministry where the Secretary Steel Ms. Aruna
Sundararajan briefed him about the functioning of the Ministry, its constituent
8 PSUs and 3 technical institutions, current market scenario and the future
roadmap of growth and development in the steel sector.
