Railway Week Function-2004, Member Staff, Railway Board presides
The Member Staff, Railway Board, Shri S.M. Singla, today gave away Running Efficiency Shield and Rs.2000/- each to the two best maintained branches jointly in the Railway Board, Merit Certificates and Rs.1000/- each to five other branches, Certificate for Meritorious Service and Rs.2000/- each to 58 officials in Group ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ and ‘D’ categories, awards to 31 sportspersons, souvenirs to five players in team events, souvenirs to 3 winners in Inter-Directorate tournaments, awards to 10 personnel in Inter-Ministry Music and Dance Competition 2003-2004, four personnel for all India Civil Service Music and Dance Competition 2003-2004, first prize of Rs.400/- each to 3 Malis (gardeners), 2nd Prize of Rs.300/- each to two Malis and Rs.200/- each to 3 Malis of Railway Board for their upkeep of garden and lawns in Rail Bhawan. First Prizes of Rs.400/- each and 2nd prizes of Rs.300/- each to two Malis in each category of the National Rail Museum were also presented.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Singla congratulated the awardees for their excellent performance during the 2003-2004 financial year. He exuded confidence that others would emulate them in improving the productivity of Indian Railways in the new financial year. He also called upon the officials in the Ministry of Railways to work hard and improve efficiency with a renewed pledge to rededicate themselves to a safe, secure and efficient rail services to the Nation.

The Railway Week is celebrated every year from April 10-16 to commemorate the advent of Railways in India on April 16, 1853. During the week-long celebrations, Railway functionaries are awarded for excellence in performance at the Railway Board, Zonal Railways and Divisional Railways levels.
