Hindi Diwas Being Observed Today
Hindi Diwas is being observed today. Hindi was declared official language unanimously by the Constitutional Assembly on 14th September, 1949. Since then, every year, 14th September is celebrated as Hindi Day in all Central Government Offices situated in India and abroad.
At a function organized in New Delhi today, the Vice President, Shri M. Hamid Ansari, gave away Rajeev Gandhi Gyan-Vigyan Maulik Pustak Lekhan Puraskar and Indira Gandhi Raj Bhasha Purskar 2008-09 for original book writing in Hindi, Indira Gandhi Raj Bhasha Purskar 2008-09 for excellent work done in Hindi in the Offices of the Central Government and public sector undertakings etc. and Grih Patrika Purskar for publications by Ministries/ Departments in 2009-10. On this occasion, 53 awards were given away in the form of Shields / Certificates/ Cash.
In his address, the Vice President said that Hindi should be enriched further by adopting common words from other languages. He called upon the people to make united efforts for the progress of Hindi so that unity of the country can be strengthened. He also stressed the need to ensure progress of other Indian languages along with Hindi.
In his address on the occasion, the Union Home Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram said that easy access to computers is essential for spread of Hindi. Hindi is emerging as a language of employment and trade. He stressed the need to reach out to people in their own languages for more effective implementation of developmental schemes.
In his address, the Minister of State for Home, Shri Ajay Maken emphasized the need to promote use of Hindi and other Indian languages on computers. He expressed happiness over the fact that most Ministries and Departments of Government of India now have websites in Hindi.
Those present on the occasion included the Minister of State for Home, Shri M. Ramachandran and Secretary, Department of Official Language, Shri B.S. Parseera.
