Indian Railways Participate in 16th Asian Games in a Big Way

After a splendid performance in Commonwealth Games 2010, Indian Railways’ sports persons are set to bring more laurels to the nation.  Continuing its run of glory  in country’s sports arena, 113 sports persons from Indian Railways will be participating as a part of the Indian Contingent in the 16th Asian Games, 2010 being held at Guangzhou, China from 12th – 27th November, 2010.  Railways’ contingent in the Indian squad is perhaps the biggest contingent from a single organization in the country.  Indian Railway players won 25 medals for India which include 13 Gold medals, 3 Silver medals and 9 Bronze medals in the 19th Commonwealth Games (CWG 2010) held in Delhi last month.

The Indian Railways, winner of the first ‘Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar’ instituted by the Government of India, always takes lead in promoting sports in the country.  Railways sports persons have been participating in prestigious national as well as international competitions like Asiad, Commonwealth Games, Olympics, other international level sports events and bringing laurels to the nation.   With a galaxy of promising and outstanding sports persons on its roll, since the inception of Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) in 1928, Indian Railways have always been striving hard to take up the new challenges and are very hopeful for a spectacular show in this mega sports event.  Railways has sixteen Padamshree, three Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, five Dronacharya Sammaan, Six Dhyanchand Sammaan and 134 Arjun Puraskar to its credit which have been awarded to its sports persons.

Sportspersons from Indian Railway participating in Athletics in Men section are : S/Shri B.G. Nagraj, Ritesh Anand, V.B. Biniesh, Jithin Paul, Bibin Mathew, Prakash Verma, Sajeesh Joseph, Maha Singh, R. Maheswari (Bronze-CWG-2010), Amarjeet Singh, Hari Shanker Roy, Bhartinder Singh, Joseph Abraham and Ashwani.  And in the Women section : S. Geetha(Bronze-CWG 2010),  Priya P.K. (Bronze-CWG 2010), Arjina Khatun, Ashwini AC (Gold-CWG 2010), Sini Jose ( Gold-CWG 2010), Jhuma Khatun, O.P. Jaisha, Preeja Sreedharan, Sudha Singh, Krishna Poonia (Gold-CWG 2010), Saraswathi, Prajusha M.A. (Silver-CWG 2010), Sahana Kumari, G.G. Promila, Sushmita Singha Roy,  Virender Singh, Coach and PT Usha Coach.

Sportspersons participating in Archery are : Ms. Dola Banerjee (Gold & Bronze CWG 2010), Ms. L. Bombayla Devi (Gold – CWG 2010) and Shri Mangal Singh Champia.

Sportsperson participating in Aquatic is  Shri Sandeep Sejwal.  Sportspersons taking part in Shooting event are : Ms  Suma Shirur (Bronze – CWG 2010) and Ms. Anisa Sayyed (Gold-CWG 2010).

The names of players participating in Cycling event are : S/Shri Amrit Singh,  Dayala Ram Saran,  Prince H. S. and Ms. Sunita Devi.

The names of Railway persons in Women Hockey team are: Ms. Deepika Murty, Joydeep Kaur, Binita Toppo, Subdhra Pradhan, Rosalind Ralte,  Kirandeep Kaur, Saba Anjum, Surinder Kaur, Th Chanch Devi, Jasjeet Kaur, Mukta P. Barla,  Deepika Thakur, and Yogita Bali  and Ms. Pritm Sivach - Coach.

S/Shri Vinod, Rajender (Gold – CWG 2010), Ravinder (Gold – CWG 2010), Pradeep Kumar, Nar Singh Yadav (Gold – CWG 2010), Sanjay Kumar(Gold – CWG 2010), Rajiv Tomar and Dharmender Dalal (Bronze – CWG 2010) will be taking part in the Wrestling category.

S/Shri Ashish (Silver – CWG 2010), Alok Ranja, Devesh and Ms. Preeti Das are participating in Gymnastics category.

Shri Omkar Otari and Ms. Renu Bala (Gold – CWG 2010) are participating in Weightlifting category.  Railway players participating in Handball (Men) Team are: S/Shri Sachin Chaudhary and Mahinder Singh Rawat. And participants of Handball (Women) team are: Ms. Priyanka, Ms. D. Madhavi, Ms. CH Venkatlakshmi and Ms. Nisha Patil.

S/Shri Yadvender Singh, Viashesh Brighuwanshi, Prakash Mishra, Sunil Kumar Rathi and Kiran Pal Singh are participating in Basketball (Men) event.   Railway  players in Basketball (Women) team are : Ms. Geethu Annajosh, Ms. P Anitha, Ms. Bharti Netam, Ms. M. Pushpa,  and Ms. Smriti Radhakrishnan and Sat Prakash-Asstt. Coach.

The names of Railway sportspersons in Kabaddi (Men) team are :S/Shri Rakesh Kumar, Manjit Chiller and Nitin Govardhan Guhle. The names of Kabaddi (Women) team are Ms. Mamtha, Teheswani Bai and Smita Kumari.

Railway sportspersons participating in Volleyball event are : Ms. Priyanka Bora, Ms. Terin Antony, Ms. Priyenka Khedkar, Ms. Minimol Abraham, Ms. Shibi K J. Ms. Reshma K, Ms. Princy Joseph and Ms. Meena Mahalingam- Sr. Coach.

Railways’ players participating in Rugby are : Ms. Sutepa Das, Ms.Kalpana Das and Ms. Taposi Nandi.
