29 Militant Cadres Give Up Arms at HQ 57 Moutain Division, Leimakhong
29 cadres of various groups gave up arms at Leimakhong, the headquarters of 57 Mountain Division. In a simple ceremony held on today the Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, V Jathang, alongwith Major General Binoy Poonnen, General Officer Commanding, Red Shield Division, and senior army officials accepted the arms presented by the cadres.
The decision of these cadres, which included seven cadres of NSCN (Khole), six Cadres of NSCN (Khaplang), seven Cadres of Federal Government of Nagaland, three cadres of Peoples United Liberation Front, two cadres each of United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and Naga National Council (NNC) and one cadre each of NSCN (IM) and Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) to give up arms, was facilitated by troops of the Red Shield Division.
Speaking on the occasion, the Major General Binoy Poonnen praised them, for their courage and wisdom in choosing to become responsible citizens of the state, and contribute to progressive realization of desire and aspirations of citizens. He assured them of all assistance in their rehabilitation process. He reiterated that the security forces on their part, would continue to encourage all such endeavours, by all insurgent groups, both collectively and individually, and shall continue to act as a facilitator in their rehabilitation. The Additional DGP, V Jathang welcomed them into the national mainstream, and on behalf of the government, assured them and their families, an honourable rehabilitation. An important aspect of the ceremony was a commitment given by a very senior functionary of United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA), about their decision to suspend operations, with a view to join the national mainstream. He declared that his organization shall bear true faith and allegiance, to uphold sovereignty unity and integrity of the country.
