The Ministry of Culture and its autonomous
organizations have undertaken various cultural activities for promotion and development
of culture in various States of the country including Jharkhand. Details of the
cultural activities undertaken during the last three years and current year in
the State of Jharkhand are given in the Annexure.
All the programmes
received good response and were appreciated by the local artist community and
art lovers.

During the year
2008-09 the Museum organized a week long training workshop on Museum and
Heritage Management in which curators from some of the museums situated in the
Jharkhand also participated. A field work was carried out in Jharkhand mainly
for collection of traditional objects of “Saraikela Chhow Dance Masks.” Among the “Mahapatra’s Community in singhbhum
district, around 22 nos. of different kinds of masks and one musical instrument
have been collected.
During the year
2010-11 the museum organized a national seminar on “Anthropology in India
during Pre-Independent and Post-Independent Period” at Ranchi from 17th
to 19th December, 2010. The Museum also felicitated Shri Mahendra Hembrom, an artist from
Jharkhand for his contribution in the development of the exhibitions and
organization of programmes of this museum on the
Museum’s 35th Foundation Day. A field work was conducted in
Jharkhand particularly for collection of ethnographic objects and documentation
among the Oraon, Munda and Malar communities in Ranchi district. Around 55 numbers of
ethnographic objects have been collected. During the year 2011-12 a team of Munda tribe from Jharkhand presented a glimpse of their
tribal culture in the 3-day long cultural programme organized from 10th
to 12th August, 2011 on the occasion of International Day of World’s
Indigenous People and International Youth Day.
(v) National School of Drama conducted
production oriented theatre workshops of short duration in Jharkhand. Year-wise
