Director of “Baboo Band Baaja” describes his film as a Tug-of-War between Fate and Hope
Director of the National Award winning film “Baboo Band Baja” Mr. Rajesh Pinjani has described his film as a tug-of-war between fate and hope. He said that it shows the irrepressible surge to soar in life while being pitted against the vicious grip of circumstances. He was addressing a press conference at the media centre here today along with the lead actor of the film Mr. Milind Shinde and Ms. Mitalee Jagtap Varadkar who is the lead actress of the film. The Director said that a lot of research, few real life incidents, a simple story and a great team effort had all made it possible to make the film “Baboo Band Baaja”.

Mr. Pinjani’s earlier short films “UDAAN”, “DISHA”, “TEMPT” and other documentaries were based on social issues, mostly shot with real life characters. While doing a corporate film for a microfinance company he travelled a lot to interior parts of India and noticed the life and problems of rural “bandwallas”. This inspired him to do a film on them.

Mr. Rajesh Pinjani has worked in media, like film journalism and advertising for several years, directing corporate and ad films. His short films, “UDAAN” and “DISHA” have won several awards. “Baboo Band Baaja” is his debut feature film as director.

In the film “Baboo Band Baaja”, Baboo is the son of a band player living in dire poverty. His father had resigned to the idea that his son would have to carry on their family tradition of playing the band at the functions in the village. By contrast, his mother was doing everything possible to get him educated. Though all his music instruments were mortgaged, the father helplessly dreamt to one day restart his band “Baboo Band Party”.
