Justice Ranganath Misra appointed Chairman of the National Commission for Socially and Economically backward sections among the Religious and Linguistic Minorities
The Government has appointed the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India Justice Ranganath Misra as the Chairman of the National Commission for Socially and Economically backward sections among the Religious and Linguistic Minorities. . A notification issued here says that the other Members of the Commission are Professor (Dr.) Tahir Mahmood, former Chairman, National Commission of Minorities, Dr. Anil Wilson, Principal, St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and Dr. Mohinder Singh, Director, National Institute of Punjab Studies New Delhi. The tenure of their appointments will be for six months with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the Chairperson.
The Commission has been asked to suggest criteria for identification of and recommend measures for the welfare of socially and economically backward sections among the religious and linguistic minorities, including reservation in education and government employment. It has also been asked to suggest the necessary constitutional, legal and administrative modalities, as required for implementation of their recommendations.
The Commission was set up by the Central Government vide a Resolution on October 29, 2004.
