Vande Mataram Day Centenary celebrations on September 07
Government is organizing programmes to commemorate the centenary of Vande Mataram on September 07. To be held in Red Fort, Delhi, these would reiterate the commitment to Vande Mataram’s ideals of patriotism and national integration. A large number of freedom fighters will take part in the celebrations.
The highlight of the ‘Vande Mataram Day’ will be floral tributes to Madam Bhikaiji Cama, who unfurled the flag of Indian freedom with ‘Vande Mataram’ inscribed on it at the International Socialist Congress at Stuttgart in Germany in 1907 and singing of Vande Mataram and patriotic songs by students of Bal Bhawan; a public meeting in the afternoon followed by a Culture Evening at Red Fort. An exhibition of rare portraits of martyrs is also being organized at the same place.
This historic occasion which is dedicated to the entire freedom movement and not to any individual, has great significance for the freedom fighters as it reminds them of their older days when slogan’s like ‘Long live Mother India’ and Bankim’s ‘Vande Mataram’ infused the spirit of service and sacrifice among millions of people which brought the downfall of a mighty empire in the world.
Vande Mataram Centenary Celebrations will be the nation’s tribute to all martyrs and freedom fighters who suffered and sacrificed their lives in the struggle against imperialism.
The Central Ministries of Culture, Tourism and HRD and the Department of Culture of Delhi Government are coordinating the programme with the National Committee of Centenary Celebrations of Vande Mataram.
