Term of Development Boards in Maharashtra extended
The Union Cabinet today gave its ex-post-facto approval to extend the term of the three existing Development Boards in Maharashtra namely, the Vidarbha Development Board, the Marathwada Development Board and the Development Board for the Rest of Maharashtra, by one year from May 1, 2005 to April 30, 2006. The Cabinet also gave its approval to recommend to the President to extend the term of the existing three Development Boards in Maharashtra for a further period of four years from May 1, 2006 to April 30, 2010.
The term of the three development Boards in Maharashtra, which were established in 1994, was initially extended for 5 years from May 1, 1999 to April 30, 2004. Subsequently, the term of the Boards were extended from May 1, 2004 to April 30, 2005 and from May 1, 2005 to April 30, 2006. Extension of term of the three development Boards upto April 30, 2010 would be crucial for yielding results and achieving targets of clearing backlog and overall development of the regions.
