Raksha Kavach, an anti-collision device gets patented in India and South Africa
Device developed by Konkan Railway
In a major development that will open up new vistas for innovative technologies developed by Konkan
Railway, the Anti-Collision Device (ACD), also known as Raksha Kavach,
has been granted its first patent in India and South Africa. The patent application for ACD has been filed
by the Konkan Railway in the US and European & Asian countries and the same
is under process in these countries.
Indian Railways have included Raksha Kavach as
an accepted safety system and plan to install it on the entire broad guage
route by the year 2013. Konkan Railway
will be executing this work phase-wise.
Konkan Railway has installed ACD on its entire route and in
Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). The
installation of Raksha Kavach (network of ACDs) on Rajdhani route of Northeast
Frontier Railway has been completed. As
may as 1,018 ACDs have been installed on NF Railway routes. The final handing over of this network to NF
Railway is expected to be completed by the end of March 2006.
In addition to giving protection against collisions at high
speeds between two ACD fitted entities, the Raksha Kavach also
provides additional safety features in train operations, such as detection of
train parting, train actuated warning to road users at level crossings etc.
The Indian patent number granted for ACD is 198166 with
sealing date as 29th December 2005 (with effect from
24.09.1999). The South Africa Patent
number granted for ACD is 2004/8842, Sealing date 28th September
2005 (with effect from 05.04.2002).
