One of the highlights of the outcome of the recently-concluded general elections in Tamil Nadu are the margins with which candidates belonging to the INC led alliance won their seats. In as many as 8 constituencies the candidates of this alliance have won by margin more than 2 lakhs and cornered more than 60% votes.

The DMK candidate from Madras North Lok Sabha seat Mr. C.Kuppusami defeated his closest rival Sukumar Nambiar MN, (BJP) by a margin of 2,53,539 votes. The DMK candidate secured 5,70,122 votes which is 62.25% of the total votes polled, the highest in Tamil Nadu. In the Nilgiris, R. Prabhu (INC) defeated Master Mathan M (BJP) by 2,36,502 votes, second highest in the state, securing 63.28% votes which comes to 4,94,121 votes.

The DMK in Sriperumbudur, Madras South and in Nagapattinam, the INC in Palani and in Gobichettipalayam and the MDMK candidate in Tiruchirapalli all won by margins exceeding 2 lakh votes and pocketing more than 60% of the total votes polled.

The PMK candidate from Dharmapuri, Dr. R.Senthil defeated his BJP rival P.D. Elangovan by 2,16,090 votes which comes to 55.99% votes.
