Bio-Data of Shri Dayanidhi Maran

Shri Dayanidhi Maran, Union Minister of Communications and Information Technology, belongs to the illustrious family of Tamil Nadu whose contributions to the development of the State have been numerous and manifold. His father late Shri Murasoli Maran served in the Union Cabinet in various capacities, his last important assignment being the Minister of Commerce & Industry in the Union Cabinet. It was during this tenure that Shri Murasoli Maran was able to successfully put India’s case at the forum of World Trade Organisation (WTO) forthrightly and firmly. He was considered votary of liberalisation and anti-licence raj. Th trade policy also got new direction under his stewardship which put a solid foundation for the country’s economy.
It is for the first time that Shri Dayanidhi Maran contested and got elected to the Fourteenth Lok Sabha from Central Madras Constituency, winning by a margin of over 1,37,000 votes. Shri Maran,37, the younger of the two sons and a daughter of late Shri Murasoli Maran, received initial education in Tamil Nadu and graduated in Economics from Loyola College in Chennai. He went abroad and completed Management Programme “Owner/President Management Programme” (OPM) from Harvard Business School in Boston, United States of America (USA).
Shri Dayanidhi Maran has inherited politics from his late father who dedicated his entire life to the service of the downtrodden and the oppressed classes. During his leadership, late Shri Murasoli Maran took up and fought for several causes. His grand uncle Dr. Kalignar M. Karunanidhi, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, through his contributions, has guided and given new momentum to the growth of the State.
Shri Maran has been deeply involved and associated with the print media well over a decade. He is a voracious reader and has keen interest in areas of current affairs, political science, social science, commerce, finance, global trade and information technology.
Shri Dayanidhi Maran has widely travelled and has been to many countries and attended various seminars, conferences which enabled him to get first-hand exposure in the fields of media, television, cable technology, political economy and management.
Shri Maran is a keen sportsman and love playing golf, cricket and tennis.
