Bio-Data of Dr. Shakeel Ahmad
UNION MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Born on January 2, 1956, at Bishanpur, District Muzaffarpur in Bihar, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad has long been associated with active politics both at the national and state level. He served twice as Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly between 1985-90 and 1990-95 respectively and was the Whip of the Congress Legislative Party, Bihar Legislative Assembly during the period 1988-94. Holding important position in the party, Dr. Shakeel Ahmad also served as General Secretary, Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee during 1995-96.
Dr. Shakeel Ahmad was a Member of the Executive Committee of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) after he was elected to the Twelfth Lok Sabha in 1998. Between 1998-2000, he served as the Member of several Committees including the Committee on Estimates, Committee on Industry, Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Steel and Mines and as a Member of the Joint Committee on the functioning of Wakf Boards.
During March 2000 to 25th May 2004, Dr. Ahmad served as Member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly and as President of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee from December 2000 to June 2003. He also served as a Cabinet Minister in charge of Medical Education, Family Welfare & I.S.M., Government of Bihar during the period.
Dr. Shakeel Ahmad was again elected to the Fourteenth Lok Sabha from Madhubani Parliamentary Constituency in Bihar on 13th May, 2004 and was appointed as Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology on May 22, 2004.
A Medical Practitioner by profession Dr. Shakeel Ahmad has also been associated with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and served as a Member at its Central Advisory Committee between 1998-99. Again as a Member, he also served on the Court of Aligarh Muslim University between 1998-99.
