DENGUE – A STATUS REPORT
A total number of 3613 cases and 50 deaths have been reported from India as a whole including Delhi as on 9.10.2006 upto 10.00 a.m.

Situation report on Dengue in Delhi (upto 9.10.06 – 10.00 am):

A total number of 957 cases and 20 deaths have been reported from Delhi, NCR and other states. Out of these, 590 cases have been reported from Delhi, while 367 are cases from the NCR and other states.

The 367 cases from outside Delhi include 95 cases from Haryana, 199 cases from Uttar Pradesh, 12 cases from Rajasthan and the rest 61 from others.

Situation report on Dengue in other States (up to 9.10.06 – 10.00 am):

Apart from Delhi, up to 9.10.06, the maximum number of Dengue cases have been reported : Kerala (713), Gujarat (424), Rajasthan (326), West Bengal (314), Tamil Nadu (306), Maharashtra (226) and Uttar Pradesh (214). Cases have also been reported from Haryana (65), Karnataka (59) and Andhra Pradesh (9).

Action taken by Government of India

· A Control Room has been established w.e.f.08.10.2006 at the Directorate of national Vector Borne Disease Control Programme, 22, Sham Nath Marg, Delhi – 110054 (Telephone No.23972884) for information dissemination on Dengue. The control Room is functioning from 10 am to 10 pm.

· NVBDCP is monitoring the situation continuously and issuing technical guidance and logistics support to states.

· NVBDCP is carrying out vector surveillance in Delhi.

· IEC activities have been scaled up for community sensitization and mobilization.

· Inter-sectoral meetings with different Departments, Hospitals, Municipal bodies are being held.

· All available information has been posted on the Programme’s website: www.namp.gov.in.

· Press is being briefed regularly about the latest Dengue situation and prevention and control measures being undertaken.
