National Commission for Scheduled Castes decides to monitor organizations connected with welfare and development of SCS
The newly constituted National Commission for Scheduled Castes held its first meeting under the chairmanship of Dr. Buta Singh, the newly appointed Chairman of the Commission, here today. The other Members of the Commission, viz., Prof. N.M. Kamble, Vice Chairman, Shrin Mrutyunjay Nayak, Shri Mahendra Boudh and Smt. Satya Bahin, Members were also present.

The Commission under the leadership of Dr. Buta Singh first participated in the Centenary Celebrations of Babu Jagjivan Ram being held at Parliament Annexe, New Delhi and paid glowing tributes for his sterling services to the nation and the down trodden. Thereafter, the Commission in its meeting placed on record the contribution made by Late Dr. Suraj Bhan, Chairman of the first N.C.S.C for the upliftment of SCs over the decades. They paid tribute to him by observing one minute silence in his memory.

The Commission decided to take up the monitoring of various organizations connected with the welfare and development of SCs population in the country on regular basis. Henceforth the Commission will hold two meetings in a month. It decided to monitor the resolution of local problems in remote parts of the country by the concerned State Government and Departments/authorities through spot visits. The Commission also resolved to visit all States at least once a year for interaction with the State Governments and various organisations, associations and bodies of the Scheduled Castes for speedy resolution of issues connected with their welfare.
