Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh reviews roadmap for Silk, Sericulture, Handloom and Textile development in Mizoram
Union Minister of Textiles Shri Giriraj Singh commenced his official visit to Mizoram with a series of high-level meetings and review programmes focused on strengthening sericulture, silk, handloom & textile development in the State.The Union Minister held discussions with Shri Lalduhoma, Chief Minister of Mizoram; Shri Lalthansanga, StateMin ister for Sericulture; Smt. Florence Zotluangpuii, Secretary, Sericulture Department; Shri Udit Prakash Rai, Commissioner & Secretary, Cooperation and Disaster Management Department; Smt. Vrunda Manohar Desai, Textiles Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles. Discussions focused on promotion of sericulture, emerging opportunities, innovation in silk sector, strengthening handloom industries and socio-economic empowerment of weavers, artisans & rural communities.

Shri Giriraj Singh called on the Governor of Mizoram, General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.). Discussions were held on infrastructure development, expansion of textile activities and promotion of the sericulture and silk sector in the State and North Eastern Region. On the occasion, the Governor was honoured with a traditional “5-in-1” silk shawl symbolising India’s rich silk heritage.

The Union Minister also chaired departmental presentations by Sericulture, Cooperation, Agriculture, Handloom & Handicrafts Departments, where key opportunities, developmental challenges & strategies for sectoral growth were reviewed.

Later in the day ,Mr.Giriraj Singh visited the ZOZIYA Silk showroom in Aizawl and reviewed a wide range of silk and textile products showcasing the rich handloom heritage of Mizoram. The products displayed carried the Silk Mark label, assuring purity and authenticity of silk. And, interacted with the private silk entrepreneur behind the initiative, who is also a sericulture farmer and weaver, a recipient of two National Awards, her inspiring journey reflects the growing strength of women-led entrepreneurship, traditional craftsmanship and sustainable silk development in Mizoram. Shri. Giriraj Singh interacted with young entrepreneurs and appreciated their efforts in promoting innovation, traditional weaving and sustainable silk-based livelihoods.Shri P. Sivakumar, Member Secretary, Central Silk Board, accompanied the Hon’ble Minister during the visit along with scientists and officials from CSB institutes & State departments.

The visit reflects the continued commitment of the Ministry of Textiles, Central Silk Board and the Government of Mizoram towards promotion of sustainable sericulture, innovation, entrepreneurship, women empowerment & socio-economic development through the silk & textile sectors.
