NHAI Signs Concession Agreement for four Tamil Nadu Projects

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) today signed the Concession Agreement for four Projects to be executed in Tamil Nadu on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis under National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase III at a total cost of Rs. 2,318 Crores for four laning of 343 km.

The Agreements were signed this afternoon by NHAI in the presence of Shri Pradeep Kumar, Chairman, NHAI with  M/s Pondicherry Tindivanam Tollway Limited  (an SPV formed by M/s Maytas – NCC Consortium) for Pondicherry – Tindivanam Section of NH-66, and M/s SU Toll Road Private Limited, M/s TD Toll Road Private Limited and M/s TK Toll Road Private Limited  (SPVs formed by M/s Reliance Energy Limited) for Salem – Ulundurpet Section of NH-68, Trichy – Dindigul Section of NH-45 and Trichy – Karur Section of NH-67 respectively.

The Concession Period is 25 years (including 36 months of construction period) for Salem – Ulundurpet Section and 30 years (including 30 months of construction period) for the remaining 3 Stretches.  The above projects will have adequate provisions for construction of ROBs, Bridges, Flyovers, Service Roads, Wayside Amenities, etc. 

The Government had approved upgradation and four-laning of 12,109 km length of National Highways on BOT basis under NHDP Phase-III at an estimated cost of Rs. 80,626 Crores.  Of this, 30 projects costing Rs 11,627 Crore covering 1941 km have already been awarded.  Another 3000 km are proposed to be awarded during the current financial year. The remaining length will be awarded in a phased manner before March 2010.
