Shri Jitin Prasada urges Home Minister to take up yesterday’s attack in West Bengal with the State Government
The Minister of State for Steel Shri Jitin Prasada has urged the Union Home Minister to take up the issue of yesterday’s attack in Salboni, West BengaL with the state government. In a letter to the Home Minister Shri Jitin Prasada brought the incident to his notice and requested him to take up the matter. The Minister had gone to Salboni, Midnapore District in West Bengal to attend the foundation stone laying ceremony of JSW Bengal Steel Ltd., a joint venture of JSW Ltd. and the government of West Bengal. The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Shri Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee also attended this function.

While returning to the airstrip after the function was over, a land mine exploded which blew the vehicle immediately ahead of the car in which Shri Jitin Prasada and the Minister for Steel Chemicals and Fertilisers Shri Paswan were travelling. The media reports so far have wrongly reported that CM’s convoy was hit by this blast. In fact, the CM had already left in a different convoy. The state police and the state PR machinery wrongfully projected it as attack on the CM.

This area is a naxalite-affected area and the security agencies of the state, who were supposed to be responsible for the security, did not do their job properly. The blast was detonated by a wire which was about 1.2 km. long. Shri Prasada said, this shows a casual approach of the state police when it comes to the security of Union Ministers. While the state administration has projected this incident as an attack on the CM on the one hand, they were totally lax and inconsiderate towards the security of Union Ministers on the other hand.
