Implementation of Arunachal Pradesh Package of Roads & Highways
The Union Cabinet today approved a proposal of Department of Road Transport & Highways regarding construction of Trans Arunachal Highway covering of 1412 km length interlinking 11 District Hqrs. of Arunachal Pradesh, construction of further 847 km roads of 2-lane standards to provide improved connectivity to the remaining 5 District Hqrs. towns thus covering all the 16 District Hqrs of Arunachal Pradesh and 60 km long missing link between NH 52 near Roing and NH 37 near Dhola, including a major bridge over Lohit river between Dhola and Sadia in Assam. The proposal, in all, covers construction / improvement of 2319 km length of roads and bridges at an estimated cost of Rs. 12513 crore. The stretches of Trans Arunachal Highway from Nichipu to Hoj, Potin to Pangin, a major bridge of about 5 km length in Debang valley with road from Bamjur to Meka and another bridge of about 2.1 km. length at Alubarighat along with road from Digaru to Chowkham and major bridge of about 5 km length between Dhola and Sadia in Assam, in all covering 776 km length are to be executed on BOT (Annuity) basis, while the remaining stretches have been approved for execution on EPC basis. The proposal would benefit all the 16 Districts of Arunachal Pradesh and Sibsagar and Tinsukhiya Districts of Assam and is aimed at providing efficient road connectivity to remote & backward areas and the areas of deficient roads. The roads covered in the proposal also have strategic importance by way of providing better road communication to forward areas of Anini and Anjaw Districts. The proposals would also facilitate & benefit several hydro power projects across the State of Arunachal Pradesh. Cabinet also approved creation of a Project Management Unit (PMU) at Guwahati headed by Additional Director General for better and efficient implementation of Special Accelerated Road Development Programme in North East (SARDP-NE) and other road programmes of the department in NE region.
