Village on Wheels trains on five sectors
Village On Wheels train, common man’s Palace On Wheels, announced in 2004-2005 Railway Budget, will commence its maiden journey on November 29, 2004 from Rajendra Nagar-Patna-Varanasi-Agra-Mathura-Delhi Safdarjung-Jammu Tawi (Vaishno Devi)-Amritsar-Haridwar (Rishikesh)-Patna-Rajendra Nagar on nine days duration. The Union Minister of Railway, Shri Lalu Prasad will flag off the maiden run at 8.00 a.m. on November 29, 2004 at Rajendra Nagar.

The tariff will be Rs. 4,500/- at the rate of Rs. 500 per day. The package will include food, refreshments, tea or coffee, sight seeing of important centres of religious, cultural and historical places at an affordable price. Village On Wheels seeks to enable common man to travel round the country to promote domestic tourism and to unify our people further.

Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has arranged tour operators to market and manage comprehensive services including sight seeing, road linkages, catering and allied activities at various places. There will be first aid medicare service on board the train. The tour operator will also provide on board safe vault for money of passengers to enable them to take needed money while sight seeing and keep the rest safe with the on board banker.

The Village On Wheels will have eight coaches including pantry car.

On sector 2, Village On Wheels will run on Patna-Mokama-Jasidih-Asansol-Bardhaman-Howrah-Puri-Howrah-Asansol-Patna. On sector 3, Village On Wheels will run on Howrah-Patna-Manmad (Shirdi)-Pune-Mumbai-Ahmedaba-Dwarka-Verawal-Ajmer-Jaipur-Delhi-Patna-Howrah. On sector 4, Village On wheels will operate on Patna- Howrah –Puri –Tirupati –Madurai – Rameshwaram – Kanyakumari -Trivandrum-Ernakulam-Howrah-Patna. On sector 5, Village On Wheels train will run to Ajmer Sharif during Urs Mela from different originating points of the country.

In addition to the maiden run of Village On Wheels train from November 29, 2004, the second sector service will start on six days duration from December 10 to 15, 2004, December 19 to 24, 2004, December 28, 2004 to January 2, 2005 and February 2 to 7, 2005, the third sector tour from January 5 to 16, 2005 on 12 days duration, the fourth sector tour from January 19 to 30, 2005 and the fifth sector run from February 10 to 15, 2005 and February 19 to 25, 2005 for six days each.
