Project of six laning of Tumkur-Chitradurga section of NH-4 in the State of Karnataka under NHDP Phase V
The Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure today approved the implementation of the project of six laning of 114 Km long Tumkur-Chitradurga section of NH-4 excluding Tumkur and Chitradurga bypasses in the State of Karnataka under NHDP Phase V on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) Basis.
The total project cost is estimated at Rs.839 crore under the DBFOT pattern. The concession period is for 26 years including a construction period of 30 months.
The main object of the project is to expedite the improvement of infrastructure in the State. The project road runs between Tumkur and Chitradurga in the State of Karnataka, which will facilitate in reducing the time and cost of travel of the traffic, particularly heavy traffic running between Tumkur and Chitradurga.
BACKGROUND:
The Cabinet gave approval for six laning of 6500 Km of existing four lane National Highways comprising under NHDP Phase V, which was approved in Oct., 2006.
The major impact of the project lies in reducing the time and cost of travel of the traffic, particularly heavy traffic running between Tumkur-Chitradurga. It will also increase the potential of employment to local labourers for the project activities. Besides it will also add to the transportation facilities for the tourists.
